Who are we? How do we work?
We are committed to introduce Ikarians to the sea and to connect them with their cultural heritage as seafearers

Who
are we? How do we work?
Ikaria is located in the Eastern Mediterranean and known for its difficult
seas. For generations, Ikarians were dedicated seafarers. They not only had a
good knowledge of sailing, but also about sealife and how to protect it.
In the past
Ikaria had sailing clubs, but for various reasons, these activities stopped.
However, in 2017 some dedicated sailors resurrected the tradition of sailing
and founded the “Nautical Club of Ikaria – Ναυτικός ‘ΟμιλοςΙκαρίας(NOI)”. The club is officially
registered as a non-profit organization.
Our aim is to re-introduce sailing to everybody on Ikaria, to reconnect the
people with the sea and our cultural heritage.
In order to do so, we are organizing sailing, swimming and surfing lessons and
an annual regatta, to which we invite sailors from all over the world to
participate.
One of our main priorities is the establishment of a youth section, as we
believe that sailing can offer so much to young people. With that background in
mind, we do not only want to train them as sailors, but we also see it as our
task to offer them knowledge about sealife, environmental protection and social
responsibility.
With the exception of our professional sailing, swimming and surfing teachers,
we are all working on a volunteer basis.
